What to look for in a handyman
For home repairs and maintenance, the most important factors are: relevant experience for your specific task, evidence of completed work (photos, references), local availability, liability insurance coverage, and verifiable identity. GeraHome is launching soon and has no listed providers today; before listings go live at launch, provider identity documents will be reviewed by the Gera operations team.
Questions to ask before hiring
Before confirming a booking: ask for 2-3 references from recent jobs of the same type; confirm they carry public liability insurance; get a written quote covering labour, materials, and timeline; ask whether they subcontract work; and confirm their process for handling unexpected complications or cost increases. After launch, GeraHome provider profiles are planned to show this information; no providers are listed today.
Protecting yourself when paying
Never pay the full amount upfront for any service. Standard practice is 20-30% deposit on agreement, with balance paid on satisfactory completion. GeraHome has no escrow payment system today and offers no warranty today: bookings are not open and no providers are listed yet.
