GeraHome in the UK 2026 — Gas Safe, TrustMark and the Honest Tradesperson Problem

Published 21 April 2026 · 9 min read

Quick answer

GeraHome connects UK homeowners with vetted cleaners, plumbers, electricians, gas engineers, gardeners, handymen and tradespeople. Every gas-facing job requires a Gas Safe registration check, every electrical job an NICEIC or NAPIT registration check, and every tradesperson agrees to a TrustMark-aligned code of conduct. Prices start at £15/hr for cleaning, £40/hr for a handyman, and £65/hr for a plumber. We do not charge the homeowner to post a job.

Finding a reliable tradesperson in the UK remains the single most complained-about household task. Which? and Citizens Advice consistently report that rogue traders are the source of the highest per-incident losses. GeraHome is built to fix this for British households without charging them for the privilege of looking.

The UK regulatory stack

  • Gas Safe Register — the only legally recognised register of gas engineers in Great Britain, Isle of Man and Guernsey. Any job touching gas (boiler install, gas hob, cooker connection, gas leak) must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We check the Gas Safe number on every profile monthly and block the listing automatically on lapse.
  • NICEIC / NAPIT / ECA — the competent-person schemes for electrical work compliant with Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. We accept any of these; Scotland uses Select/NICEIC.
  • TrustMark — the government-endorsed quality scheme. Our vetting mirrors its code of conduct even where a trade is not itself TrustMark-licensed.
  • Consumer Rights Act 2015 & Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 — every job booked on GeraHome is a consumer contract governed by UK law. Reasonable care and skill, reasonable time, reasonable price — the statutory implied terms apply.
  • UK GDPR / ICO — your address and booking history are processed under UK GDPR.

UK pricing in pounds sterling

Indicative live market rates (2026) shown on our platform for UK postcodes:

  • Domestic cleaner: £15–£22/hr (£15 average outside London, £20+ in Zones 1–3)
  • End-of-tenancy deep clean: £150–£320 for a 2-bed flat
  • Handyman / odd jobs: £40–£55/hr, minimum 1 hour
  • Plumber: £65–£95/hr; emergency out-of-hours from £150 call-out
  • Electrician (NICEIC): £55–£90/hr; EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) £150–£300 per property
  • Gas Safe boiler service: £90–£130 flat
  • Gardener: £25–£40/hr; one-off clearance from £150
  • Professional decorator: £180–£280 per room, 2 coats inclusive of materials

Fair comparison with UK alternatives

  • Checkatrade — the household name. Tradespeople pay a monthly membership (hundreds of pounds). Strong reviews ecosystem. Less price transparency upfront.
  • MyBuilder — pay-per-lead model: tradespeople pay for each job they quote on, which is passed onto the consumer in price. Good for complex project work.
  • Rated People — pay-per-lead. Useful for getting three quotes fast.
  • TaskRabbit — good for odd jobs, particularly IKEA assembly, but limited coverage outside major UK cities.
  • Trustatrader — membership-based directory with customer-dispute mediation.
  • GeraHome — we charge the tradesperson a flat 10–15% commission only on completed jobs, never per-lead. Homeowners never pay to post. Gas Safe and NICEIC checks are automated and re-verified monthly.

Real UK use case — a Leeds landlord

A private landlord in Headingley needs an EICR before a new tenancy (mandatory under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020). They post the postcode and property size on GeraHome at 8am. Three NICEIC-registered electricians within 6 miles send fixed quotes by noon: £180, £195, £220. They accept the £195 quote for Thursday morning. The certificate is uploaded to the booking thread as a PDF and retained on the property record for the 5-year statutory retention period.

Cities with strongest coverage

London (all 32 boroughs), Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol, Liverpool, Sheffield, Newcastle, Nottingham, Cardiff, Belfast, Southampton, Brighton, Reading, Cambridge and Oxford have 50+ verified tradespeople per category. Rural and coastal postcodes typically see 5–20 verified tradespeople per category within a 15-mile radius.

Insurance and what happens if it goes wrong

Every tradesperson on GeraHome must hold valid public liability insurance (typically £2m minimum). If a dispute arises, our resolution team reviews the evidence and can issue refunds against the platform escrow before releasing payment to the tradesperson. You still have your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and, where debit or credit card was used, section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and chargeback rights from your bank.
