GeraHome in United Kingdom

In the United Kingdom, GeraHome lists vetted local providers for home services (cleaning, plumbing, electrical, gardening, removals, handyperson), bookable in GBP via Stripe UK. The booking contract is between you and the provider; GeraHome takes a 15 percent platform commission, automatically split at payment via Stripe Connect. Eligible bookings (provider holds a verified Gera Services Passport) come with a limited Action Warranty receipt and a 14-day dispute window. Regulated work (gas, electrical NICEIC, asbestos) requires the provider to declare their certification; GeraHome surfaces it on the listing.

Country FAQ

Are GeraHome providers vetted and insured?

Every provider on GeraHome completes a baseline check (identity, right-to-work, business registration where applicable) before they can list. Providers who hold a verified Gera Services Passport additionally undergo trade-credential verification (Gas Safe, NICEIC, Part P, NAPIT, City and Guilds, etc.) and public liability insurance evidence (minimum GBP 1 million for trades, GBP 2 million for higher-risk work). Passport status is shown on the listing; if it is not shown, treat the provider as baseline-checked only and verify credentials yourself before booking regulated work.

How does the limited Action Warranty work for UK bookings?

For eligible bookings (provider holds a verified Passport, job value within Action Warranty limits per category, payment via GeraHome in GBP), Gera Services Ltd issues a signed Action Warranty receipt at booking confirmation. If the work is not completed as agreed, or quality falls materially below the stated specification, you have 14 days from job completion to raise a dispute. The warranty covers rectification or refund up to the per-category limit; it does not cover consequential loss. It is in addition to your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Full terms at warranty.gera.services.

What protection do I have under UK consumer law?

For bookings paid via GeraHome you have all standard rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015: services must be performed with reasonable care and skill, in a reasonable time, at the agreed price (or reasonable price if not stated). Materials supplied must be of satisfactory quality. Bookings made online have a 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 unless you ask the provider to start work immediately and waive that right. Payments over GBP 100 and up to GBP 30,000 made via credit card are also protected under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, jointly between the card issuer and GeraHome / the provider.

How is the 15 percent commission charged, and what does it cover?

GeraHome charges a 15 percent platform commission, automatically split at payment via Stripe Connect destination charges: the provider receives 85 percent of the gross booking price, GeraHome retains 15 percent. The price you see at booking already includes commission and any VAT the provider charges (where they are VAT-registered). The commission funds platform operation, customer support, payment processing, the Passport verification programme, and the Action Warranty scheme. There is no separate service fee charged on top.

Does GeraHome report provider income to HMRC?

Yes. GeraHome is an in-scope digital platform under the Platform Operators (Due Diligence and Reporting Requirements) Regulations 2023, which transpose the OECD Model Reporting Rules into UK law for the 2024 reporting year onward. Annual income paid out to UK-based providers (over the de minimis threshold) is reported to HMRC and a copy shared with the provider. Providers should retain their own records, register as self-employed (or a limited company) as appropriate, and report earnings on their Self Assessment or Corporation Tax return.

What if the provider damages my property?

The provider is the legal counterparty to your booking and is responsible for any damage caused by negligence in the course of the work. Providers with a verified Passport are required to hold public liability insurance (minimum GBP 1 million for general trades, GBP 2 million for higher-risk work like roofing, gas, or electrical). Report damage within 14 days via the in-app dispute flow. GeraHome will facilitate the claim against the provider insurance and, for eligible bookings, the Action Warranty may cover rectification up to the per-category limit while the provider claim is processed. Always photograph the area before work begins for evidence.

Can I book regulated work like gas or electrical safely?

For gas work (boiler service, install, repair), the provider must be on the Gas Safe Register; you can verify the engineer Gas Safe number on the listing against gassaferegister.co.uk. For domestic electrical work that falls under Part P of the Building Regulations (kitchens, bathrooms, new circuits, consumer-unit work), the provider must be registered with a competent-person scheme (NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA) and notify the work to the local authority. EICR reports for landlords must come from a qualified electrician per the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector Regulations 2020. GeraHome surfaces these credentials on the listing; if not shown, do not book regulated work from that provider.

How are disputes and refunds handled in the UK?

Raise a dispute in the GeraHome app within 14 days of job completion. We mediate between you and the provider, request evidence (photos, written work scope, communications), and propose a resolution within 5 working days. For Passport providers and eligible jobs, the Action Warranty can cover rectification or refund up to the per-category limit while mediation continues. If mediation fails, you retain all statutory rights: small-claims court for jobs under GBP 10,000 in England and Wales (under GBP 5,000 simple procedure in Scotland), or alternative dispute resolution via a relevant trade body where the provider is a member. Credit-card payments are additionally protected under Section 75 CCA 1974.
